Let's take a behind-the-scenes look at how I create the illustrations for my books.
Everything begins with the story or manuscript. After reading it many, many times, I try to visualize the words. I then come up with sketches of my ideas that I draw on paper.
In the early stages I draw alot. I also take many pictures of my models to use as reference. Often, I will ask family members or friends to model for me.
After my editor approves the sketches, I create a paper dummy, which is a mock-up of the book. It's very important that the pictures match the words in the book.
